The short answer
Most high-end range problems, such as burners that won't ignite, ovens that heat unevenly, and error codes, come down to igniters, spark modules, sensors, valves, or control boards that can be replaced. We diagnose Wolf, Viking, and Thermador ranges in Sub-Zero kitchens on site and explain whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
A professional-style range is the center of a busy kitchen. When a burner won't light or the oven runs cold, cooking stops. Sub-Zero Appliance Experts repairs gas, dual-fuel, and electric ranges for homeowners in North Hollywood and nearby cities, with a focus on premium equipment. Many of our customers have kitchens built around Sub-Zero refrigeration, so we often work on Wolf ranges from the same family, along with Viking and Thermador. Our technicians diagnose built-in and freestanding pro-style units in place, explain what they find in plain terms, and help you decide whether a repair makes sense. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with or endorsed by any appliance manufacturer.
Issues we fix
Range problems usually show up in one of a few ways. Some appear suddenly, like a burner that stops lighting. Others develop over months, like an oven that slowly drifts off temperature. If you notice any of the following, a diagnostic visit is a good next step.
- Burners that won't ignite, or that click continuously after lighting
- Weak, yellow, or uneven burner flames
- Oven that won't heat, heats slowly, or never reaches the set temperature
- Uneven baking, with hot spots or one side browning faster than the other
- Error codes or a blank, flickering, or unresponsive control panel
- Convection fan that is noisy or doesn't run
- Broiler or bake element not working on dual-fuel and electric ovens
- Self-clean cycle that won't start, or a door that stays locked afterward
- Oven door that won't close tightly, or a worn door gasket letting heat escape
- Knobs that are loose, stiff, or no longer control the flame properly

What our technician checks on a pro-style range
Built-in and professional-style ranges pack a lot into one chassis: sealed burners, spark ignition, gas valves, one or two ovens, and often electronic controls. Our technician starts with the symptom you describe, then works through the system rather than guessing at parts.
On the cooktop, that means checking burner caps and bases for alignment and debris, testing igniters and the spark module, and confirming that each burner's switch signals correctly. On the oven side, we test the bake igniter or heating elements, the temperature sensor, door switches, the convection motor, and the door seal. For electronic models, we read any stored error codes and check wiring connections and the control board. We also check gas supply pressure and look for any sign of a leak before finishing the visit.
How Wolf, Viking, and Thermador ranges differ
Each brand builds ranges a little differently, which affects what tends to wear out. Wolf ranges, often found alongside Sub-Zero refrigerators, use sealed dual-stacked burners and, on dual-fuel models, an electric oven with electronic controls. Common calls involve igniters, spark modules, oven temperature sensors, convection fans, and control board faults that show up as error codes.
Viking ranges are known for heavy-duty construction. On gas ovens, the bake igniter is a frequent culprit when the oven won't heat, and the cooktop's spark ignition can act up after spills reach the switches. Door hinges and springs also see wear on heavy oven doors.
Thermador ranges use star-shaped burners and a low-simmer system, so flame quality and simmer performance depend on clean ports and properly working valves and spark components. Electronic controls and oven sensors account for many of the remaining issues. Knowing these patterns helps our technician bring the right test equipment and reach a diagnosis faster.

Repair or replace a high-end range?
Premium ranges are built to be serviced, and most common failures involve replaceable parts rather than the range itself. If the cabinet, oven cavity, and burner box are in good shape, replacing an igniter, sensor, valve, or board usually restores the range to full performance.
Replacement starts to make sense when several major components fail at once, when the oven cavity or burner box has rust or damage, or when parts for an older model are no longer available. Replacement also brings costs beyond the range itself, such as matching a cutout in custom cabinetry, adjusting gas or electrical connections, and coordinating with your hood. We'll give you an honest assessment of the unit's condition so you can weigh both options.
What affects the cost of range repair
We don't quote a number until we've seen the range, because the same symptom can have different causes. A burner that won't light might need cleaning, a new igniter, or a new spark module.
The main factors are the fault itself, the parts involved, and access. Some parts are stocked widely, while others for premium or older models must be ordered. Access matters too. A slide-in or built-in range set into custom cabinetry or tight stone countertops can take more care to pull out and reinstall without scratching finishes or straining gas lines. Dual-fuel ranges with electronic controls can also require more diagnostic time than all-gas models. Your technician will explain the findings and the options before any repair begins.
How a service visit works
When you contact us, tell us the brand, model if you have it, and what the range is doing. Photos of any error code help. We'll schedule a visit at your home in North Hollywood or a nearby city.
At the appointment, the technician confirms the symptom, protects your floor and surrounding cabinetry, and runs the diagnostic checks described above. You'll get a clear explanation of the problem and your options. If the needed part is on hand, the repair can often be finished the same day. If it must be ordered, we'll schedule a return visit to install it, then test every burner and oven function before we leave.
