The short answer
Most dishwasher problems on high-end units, such as drain faults, leaks, poor cleaning, and error codes, come from a specific part that can be diagnosed and replaced without pulling the whole machine. A repair is usually worth it when the tub, door, and frame are sound and the fault is limited to a pump, valve, sensor, or control. We diagnose first and explain the options before any work begins.
A dishwasher that leaves water in the tub, stops mid-cycle, or sends out plates still coated in film disrupts a kitchen fast. In a premium kitchen, the fix is often more involved because the unit sits behind a custom panel and is fastened into tight cabinetry. Sub-Zero Appliance Experts repairs dishwashers in homes across North Hollywood and nearby cities such as Studio City, Burbank, Toluca Lake, and Sherman Oaks. We work on the dishwashers found in Sub-Zero and Wolf kitchens, along with Viking and Thermador models. We are an independent repair company, not affiliated with any appliance brand. Below you'll find the problems we fix, what a technician checks, and how a visit works.
Issues we fix
These are the complaints we hear most often from homeowners. One symptom can point to several possible causes, which is why we diagnose before ordering parts.
- Standing water in the tub after the cycle ends, or a cycle that stalls while draining
- Water on the floor, swelling in the toe kick or adjacent cabinets, or a leak-detection error
- Dishes that come out gritty, cloudy, or with food still stuck on
- Dishes that stay wet, or a drying cycle that runs far longer than normal
- Error codes or flashing lights on the control panel
- A unit that won't start, won't fill, or loses power partway through
- Loud grinding, humming, or buzzing during wash or drain
- A door that drops open, won't latch, or feels unbalanced with a custom panel attached
- Detergent that doesn't dispense, or racks and spray arms that bind

What our technician checks on a built-in or panel-ready dishwasher
We start by asking how the problem shows up: when it happens, which cycle you were running, and any codes you saw. Then we run a test cycle so we can watch the fill, wash, drain, and heat stages for ourselves.
From there, we work through the systems that most often cause trouble. We check the filter assembly and sump for debris, the drain pump and its impeller, and the drain hose and air gap or high loop. We also inspect the water inlet valve, the circulation pump, and the spray arms. On the electrical side, we test the heating element or heater, the temperature and turbidity sensors, the door switch, and the control board. If there's a leak, we pull the toe kick and inspect the base pan, the float switch, the door gasket, and the hose connections.
On panel-ready units, we also check the door springs and hinge cables. Heavy wood or stone-faced panels put extra strain on them. We confirm the panel weight is within what the door hardware is set up to carry.
How Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf and Thermador dishwashers differ
Sub-Zero and Wolf are best known for refrigeration and cooking. Kitchens built around them often include a dishwasher from the same manufacturing group, sold under the Cove name. These are commonly installed fully integrated behind custom panels. That makes door balance, hinge adjustment, and careful removal from the cabinetry a regular part of the job, alongside the usual drain, fill, and control work.
Viking dishwashers show up in many professional-style kitchens with stainless fronts. The problems we see most often are wear-related: drain and wash pump issues, door latch and switch faults, and control or touchpad problems as units age.
Thermador dishwashers are built by the same parent company as Bosch, so they share a design approach. That includes a leak-protection system with a float in the base pan that halts the cycle and displays a code when it detects water. When that code appears, the job is finding the true source of the water, such as a gasket, hose, or pump seal, rather than just drying the pan and resetting the unit.
Tell us what your appliance is doing.
Repair or replace a high-end dishwasher
Replacing a premium dishwasher means more than buying the appliance. A new unit may need a new custom panel, adjusted cabinetry, and a different connection setup. When the tub is intact, the door and frame are straight, and the fault is a single part such as a pump, valve, sensor, latch, or board, a repair usually makes more sense.
Replacement is worth considering when the tub itself is cracked or rusted through, when several major components are failing at once, or when a needed part is no longer available. We'll tell you plainly which situation you're in, and we won't push a repair that doesn't make sense.
What affects the cost of a dishwasher repair
We can't give a fair figure until the unit has been diagnosed, but these are the factors that drive the total:
- The fault itself: clearing a clogged filter or drain path is simpler than replacing a control board or circulation pump
- Parts: availability and the specific component your model uses
- Access: units fastened into custom cabinetry, faced with heavy panels, or hard-plumbed in tight spaces take more time to remove and reinstall safely
- Secondary damage: a long-running leak can affect insulation, the base pan, or nearby flooring, which adds work
How a visit works
When you contact us, have the brand and model number ready if you can find them. They're usually printed on a label along the edge of the door or inside the tub rim. Tell us what you're seeing, including any codes. We'll set up a time for a technician to come to your home.
At the appointment, the technician tests the unit, finds the cause, and explains the repair and your options before starting any work. If the part is on hand, many repairs can be finished that day. If a part has to be ordered, we'll schedule a return visit to install it, then run a full cycle to confirm everything works. Before we leave, we make sure the panel is aligned and the surrounding cabinetry looks the way we found it.
